Hooray! The snow is gone and the rain is starting to let up-we should be able to head outside soon for PE!!!!
Preschool 4 and Kindergarten will continue working on their eye hand coordination with games involving balloons, soft balls and striking instruments-such as bats, hockey sticks, legs and tennis rackets. Easter is coming soon and everyone loves our version of the Easter Egg Hunt, where plastic eggs are hidden under flower pots-is there still an egg there or has it already been found????? We continue the spring theme with music and dancing with our special singing chick encouraging all of us to do the "Chicken Dance". The children love to turn him on and join in his antics! We finish out the school year introducing kickball, tennis and wiffleball skills.
Grades 1-3 just finished their volleyball unit playing such games as "Monster Snatch" and Seven Up". At this level we are teaching the children to throw and catch soft balls over the regulation volleyball nets-preparing them for regulation volleyball in Grades 4-8.This level will also welcome spring and Easter with our Egg Hunt and Chicken Dance. We will continue teaching striking skills with tennis, kickball and Wiffleball.
Grades 4-8 will finish their Presidential testing with the Shuttle Run. This test involves speed and quick footwork and will be tested outside this year to prevent slipping on the gym floor.
We will finish up our Floor Hockey unit and move into our Tennis, Lacrosse and Baseball units.
For our final PE Healthy Lifestyle project, which is due by the week of May 24th(earlier is always welcomed), each student will bring in a healthy snack to share with the class(enough for every child please). It could be fruit, veggies or a healthy alternative to a "not so healthy " snack, such as fat free or sugarless candy, fat free or light popcorn etc. The sky is the limit. Please make sure that your child's snack is able to be shared without teacher preparation, as we do not want to take too much time away from out physical activity. The student should be able to share with the class the reason their snack is a good choice.
Field Day is Thursday May 20th. We would love to have you join us for help with the games and beating the 8th grade in Tennis Baseball!
I've once again enjoyed working with your children and I especially love to see how their skills have progressed from the beginning of the year to the end!
